E allora ho iniziato a scrivere camminando.
E insegnerò "Bella Ciao" a Mia.
New Year resolutions: to be so happy to forget about them
On Dyne Road there was a creaking tree. Every time I walked under it, going back home, it would threaten me with a "crack", but when I would raise my eyes to look for a pigeon about to shit on me, the tree was there still, with its gnarled roots well sunk in the cement of the pavement. And no pigeon. Then I decided to avoid it. "From today I won't walk under that bloody tree anymore". A few months after that lifesaving resolution, I was walking down Dyne Road with a stupid smile on my face. I had a very good news to give, so good that I couldn't wait to arrive at the bus stop to send a message. So I started to write a text, while walking. Then I stopped, I finished the text, pressed "send". And I was smiling, waiting for the reply, and smiling. And CRACK, I was under that fucking tree.
More or less the same happens every year with my new year's resolutions. This year I will stop eating deep fried food, for breakfast I will have rice milk, soya milk, hazelnut milk, whatever but cows won't have me! Oh well this year I will read lots of books, and watch all the tv shows I left behind. I will teach Mia the antifascist song "Bella Ciao". I will buy plants to take care of and won't let them die of thirst. I will never run out of perfume, I will learn to put make up on and I will drink coffee without sugar.
Then, in reality, the only week I managed not to put sugar in my coffee I put condensed milk instead. So even this year, in this 2016 I will carry across my big cup of cow's milk for breakfast, even though it gives me gastritis. I will carry across my mum that always asks me "shall I make you a coffee or you drink your milk first?", and my answer, the same for 37 years, "drink-my-milk-first". I will carry across two seasons of Black List, one of Leftovers, one of Fortitude, two of Orange is the new Black that I didn't manage to watch since I start falling asleep at 10.30pm, trying to put Mia to sleep - that falls asleep at 11.30pm. I will carry across my dad that every time there is an episode of Poirot on tv says "oh cool, we haven't watched this one", but we have, even me and I DO NOT watch Poirot. I carry across my sister that plays Marco Mengoni's songs instead of Bella Ciao when she teaches Mia how to inflate her chicks and then make them explode in a saliva waterfall hitting them with her two little fists. I will carry across the British-Arab that still believes in resolutions and for Christmas got me three plants Click and Grow (practically immortal), and a case full of luxury make up goodies that I don't even know what they are for.
I will carry across everything, good resolutions but above all bad habits, coz you never know. And I will have with me a good news to give, one that will make me smile and stop under a creaking tree. Not the one on Dyne Road, that one crumbled down in May, on Mia's birthday in front of me and of the British-Arab, while we were walking loaded of presents and wonder on the opposite side of the road._TIW
Y no había ninguna paloma.
